Wildlife traditionally refers to undomesticated animal species; however, in reality the term ‘wildlife’ includes all organisms that grow or live wild in an area without being introduced by humans. All ecosystems such as forests, grasslands, deserts, water bodies, agricultural lands, or even human habitats have wildlife in varying proportions. The definition of wildlife has been expanded to include even plant species growing naturally in the wild. As per the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, ‘wildlife’ includes any animal, aquatic or land vegetation which forms part of any habitat.
