The PCCF (EWPRT & CC) heads the Evaluation, Working Plan, Research and Training wings of the Department. The Working Plan wing headed by Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Working Plan) carries out the very important task of writing of Working Plans of Forest Divisions with 10-year periodicity with the objective of sustainable management of forests. It is also responsible for carrying out survey and demarcation of Reserve Forests, Protected Forests, Areas notified under section 4 of Karnataka Forests Act, 1963 and areas identified for notification under section 4 of KFA, 1963 and processes the notification of forest areas. The Research and utilization wing work under the administrative control of the Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Research and Utilization). The Forest Research involves various subjects like exotic species trials, nursery techniques, identification of Plus Trees, establishment of Clonal Seed Orchards, creation of clonal/germ plasm banks, provenance trials, progeny trials, field trial of tissue culture plantlets, identification of seed stands, seed technology, cultivation of medicinal plants, agro-forestry research and publicity & extension. The training wing of the Department administered by APCCF (HRD) undertakes training of Forest officers recruited as Range Forest Officers (RFOs), Deputy Range Forest Officers cum surveyors (Dy. RFO), Forest Guards and Forest Watchers apart from in service training of officers of various cadres. The Climate Change wing is setup in the department in the year 2019 with PCCF (EWPRT & CC) as the head of the wing. The main objectives of the wing is to function as the focal point for climate change and allied issues such as REDD in KFD to initiate vulnerability assessment of forests and communities to climate change impacts for adaptation planning in the state to take initiative for developing policy approaches and practices that promotes adaptation to deal with the risks to forests due to climate change to act as a repository of all information related to structural, operational and practices based changes effected in KFD with respect to forests and forestry personnel to promote climate change related empirical research in forestry sector in the state to collaborate with other agencies for filling the knowledge gaps necessary for management of forests under climate change.
