Karnataka Forest Department (KFD) has been giving permission for transportation of forest produce from private lands. For some areas/species, the applicant has to get felling permission before applying for transit permission. KFD provides this public service after obtaining information from the Revenue Department regarding the applicant’s right on land and forest produce. The Forest Officer after inspecting the land and forest produce and holding such enquiry as he deems necessary, may either accord permission or refuse it. After transit permission is accorded, the jurisdictional Deputy Range Forest Officer (DRFO) issues transit permit (Form-28) for movement of forest produce to the destination as indicated by the applicant. Number of transit permits issued in each case may vary depending on the quantity of the forest produce.
The Government has included this service under THE KARNATAKA SAKALA SERVICES ACT, 2011and (Amendment) Act, 2014.
