Chikkaballapur forest division is situated in the south-eastern portion of Karnataka. The limits of the division are the same as those of Chickballapur district. The division has 684.32 Km² of forest area constituting 16.91 of the geographical area of the division (4,045 Km²). Chikkaballapur division has two sub-divisions, namely, Chikkaballapur and Chinthamani, and consists of six ranges, namely, Chikkaballapur, Gudibande, Gauribidanur, Chinthamani, Shidlaghatta and Bagepalli. Chikkaballapur division consists of dry deciduous and scrub types of forest with species such as Chigare, Pachali, Bekke, Kakke, Kagali, Lantana, Bandarike, Jalari, etc. Blackbucks and Spotted deer are found in large numbers in the un-fragmented parts, which have a little forest growth. In the hill slopes and valleys, Leopard, Sloth bear and several kinds of reptiles are found, Cobras being very common. The district has no Wildlife Sanctuary or National Park.
