Mysuru forest division is situated in the southern part of Karnataka state. The total extent of forest area of the division is 16,037 hectares which constitute only about 3.73 of the geographical area of the division (4,300 Km²). Mysuru division has two sub-divisions, namely, Mysuru and H.D.Kote sub-divisions, and consists of six ranges, namely, Mysuru, Greening Urban Area, T. Narasipura, Nanjangud, H.D. Kote and Sargur. The Sandal koti at Mysuru is also attached to Mysuru division. Forests of Mysuru are primarily of dry deciduous and scrub types. Forests in the western part of the division such as Sollepura, Siddapura, Chikkanahalli, etc. are dry deciduous. Most of the forests in the remaining part of the division are scrub forests.
