Haliyal forest division is situated in the north-eastern part of Uttara Kannada district on the western side of Dharwad division. The total extent of forest area of the division is 109768.895 hectares and its geographical area is 1,480.04315 Km². Forest area comprises 74.16 of the geographical area of the division. The division is situated in Haliyal, Dandeli and Joida (part) taluks. It has three sub-divisions, namely Haliyal, Dandeli and Ganeshgudi sub-divisions, and consists of nine ranges, namely, Haliyal, Sambrani, Bhagawati, Dandeli, Virnoli, Joida, Barchi, Jagalbet and Tinaighat. The division has 34 sections and 112 beats. Haliyal division primarily comprises dry deciduous forests in the eastern part, moist deciduous forests in the central part and, semi-evergreen forests interspersed with patches of evergreen forest in the western part. Haliyal division has a major timber depot at Dandeli.
