ABOUT Division

Mangalore forest division comprises most of Dakshina Kannada district except for small portions of Belthangady, Bantwal and Mangalore taluks that are included in Kundapur forest division. Mangalore division comprises three sub-divisions, namely, Mangalore, Puttur and Subramnaya sub-divisions, and consists of eight ranges, namely, Mangalore, Bantwal, Belthangadi, Uppinangadi, Puttur, Sullia, Panja and Subramanya ranges spread over 5 revenue taluks of Mangalore, Bantwal, Belthangadi, Puttur and Sullia. The extent of forest lands in Mangalore forest division is 1,21,462.08 hectares. The forests of the division are primarily of semi-evergreen and secondary moist deciduous types. Some wet evergreen forests occur in Sullia and Subramanya ranges. Some mangrove forests occur in the coastal areas.
