Dharwad circle comprises three territorial divisions, namely, Dharwad, Gadag and Haveri divisions. Earlier, there was an independent wildlife sub-division, namely, Ranebennur wildlife sub-division. Since 2018-19, this sub-division has been included in Haveri forest division. In addition, three social forestry divisions, namely, Dharwad SF division, Gadag SF division and Haveri SF division are situated in the circle. Forests of Dharwad circle are primarily of dry deciduous, scrub and thorn types. The western side of the circle adjoining Uttara Kannada district harbors teak-bearing dry deciduous forests which are in fairly good condition. As one moves towards the east, the quality of forest deteriorates, changing to scrub forest. In the eastern most parts of the circle, thorny scrub forests amidst rocky patches are encountered. Patches of Hardwickia and Boswellia forest types are also met with in the midst of the dry deciduous forests of Gadag and Haveri divisions, mostly in rocky slopes and hill tops.
