Shivamogga circle is situated in the western part of the central sector of Karnataka state. It comprises three territorial divisions, namely, Shivamogga, Sagar and Bhadravathi divisions, and a wildlife division, namely, Shivamogga wildlife division. In addition, there is a social forestry division, namely, Shivamogga SF division. Most of the areas of the circle are from Shivamogga district with some areas from Davanagere and Chikkamagaluru districts. Forests of Shivamogga circle exhibit a lot of diversity. Various types of forest such as evergreen, semi-evergreen, moist-deciduous, dry deciduous, scrub forests, etc. are present in the circle. The evergreen and semi-evergreen forests occur in the western part of the circle, i.e, in Sagar, Shivamogga and Shivamogga wildlife divisions. Moist deciduous forests occur in the central part of the circle, in Sagar, Shivamogga and Shivamogga wildlife divisions. Dry deciduous forests are restricted to the eastern parts of the circle in Shivamogga and Bhadravathi divisions. Scrub forests occur in areas closer to habitations, and are more predominant in the eastern taluks of Shivamogga, Bhadravathi, Shikaripura and Soraba.
