Koppal forest division is located in the north-eastern part of Karnataka. The limits of the division are the same as those of Koppal revenue district. The total extent of recorded forest area in the division is 43,066 hectares which constitute about 7.64 of the division’s geographical area of 5,630 Km². Koppal division has one sub-division, namely, Gangavathi sub-division, and consists of three ranges, namely, Koppal, Gangavathi and Kushtagi. Forests of Koppal division are primarily of deciduous scrub type. The division has a very unique inselberg eco-system comprising rocks and boulders with sparse dry scrub jungle which forms the ideal habitat of Indian sloth bear.
