The Social Forestry wing of Karnataka, through the social forestry divisions, aims at increasing greenery in the state by planting in non-forest areas. District sector schemes such as “Social Forestry” and “Building” are implemented by the Social Forestry wing. Activities like raising plantations, maintenance of old plantations, advance works, etc. are carried out under the “Social Forestry” scheme. Construction of new buildings (office/staff quarters) and repairs/maintenance of old buildings are carried out under the “Building” scheme. The Social Forestry wing supervises the implementation of two centrally sponsored schemes, namely, the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) and Sub Mission on Agro-Forestry (SMAF):
