The state of Karnataka is blessed with some of the most magnificent tropical forests harboring diverse flora and fauna. The states forests are very rich in wildlife. The wildlife of the state is protected under provisions of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972. The Wildlife wing is headed by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Wildlife and Chief Wild Life Warden (CWLW). The Wildlife wing manages about 25 of the states forest areas which have been designated as Protected Areas (PA) comprising National Parks, Wildlife Sanctuaries and Conservation Reserves. Management of the Community Reserves is done under the overall guidance of the CWLW. The Wildlife wing is also responsible for administration of any wildlife-related matter pertaining to the whole state of Karnataka.
