Kalaburagi forest division is situated in the north-eastern sector of Karnataka. The limits of the division are the same as those of Kalaburagi district. The total extent of recorded forest lands in the division is about 44,419,36 hectares which constitute about 4.06 of the geographical area of the division (10,954 Km²). Kalaburagi division has one sub-division, namely, Kalaburagi sub-division, and consists of four ranges, namely, Alanda, Chittapur, Kalaburagi and Chincholi (WL) ranges. Forests of Kalaburagi division are primarily of scrub type with patches of dry mixed deciduous forest distributed in favourable sites. Fairly good patches of dry mixed deciduous forest occur in Chincholi wildlife range. The Chincholi forests covering about 13,488 hectares have been constituted as a wildlife sanctuary in 2011.
